ABOUT
I’m David Henry, a portrait photographer based in Perth.
My work is shaped by natural light, real environments, and the quiet moments that sit between the obvious ones.
I started out in photojournalism, where I learned to work quickly, read a room, and earn someone’s trust in minutes. That experience still shapes everything I do — the way I observe, the way I interact, and the way I look for the small, honest gestures that reveal something true.
I’m drawn to atmosphere and place. The way light falls across a face. The way someone settles into a moment when they stop performing. Whether I’m photographing someone on a beach, in their home, or in a quiet corner of the city, my approach is simple: slow down, pay attention, and create space for people to be themselves.
Over the years I’ve photographed hundreds of people — individuals, creatives, families, and the occasional public figure — and the thing that keeps me doing this is the same thing that got me started: the chance to make images that feel lived‑in, intentional, and quietly cinematic.
If that’s the kind of portrait you’re looking for, I’d love to create something with you.
